$2 Trillion Opportunity: Roberto Smith Perera to Unveil a Strategic Blueprint for Venezuela’s Reconstruction at the Venezuela Reawakening Summit 2026

The real winners will be those who understand that oil is only the beginning. Sustainable prosperity comes from building the industries, services, & communities that grow alongside the energy sector.”

HOUSTON, TX, UNITED STATES, August 10, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ -- Venezuela's economic recovery represents one of the most significant investment opportunities of the 21st century, with the potential to generate more than US$2 trillion in energy, infrastructure, logistics, and urban development projects.

That will be the central message delivered by Roberto Smith Perera—former Venezuelan Minister of Transportation and Communications, former Ambassador to the European Union, architect of El Gran Viraje, and founder of Digitel Venezuela and Digicel El Salvador—during the panel discussion "Real Conditions for Investment in Venezuela" at the Venezuela Reawakening Summit 2026, to be held on September 17 in Houston.

According to Smith Perera, Venezuela is only at the beginning of a 20- to 30-year transformation that could restore the country to its rightful position as one of the world's leading oil and natural gas producers.

"This process will require approximately US$1 trillion in capital expenditures (CAPEX) for the oil and gas sector alone. However, the greatest opportunities extend far beyond energy production.

They lie in the infrastructure that will make this transformation possible," Smith Perera said. During his presentation, he will unveil a strategic investment blueprint identifying the country's most critical infrastructure bottlenecks and the sectors where private capital can generate the greatest economic impact.

One of the highest priorities will be rebuilding Venezuela's national power grid, an effort estimated to require approximately US$400 billion.

"Reliable electricity must come first. Without a modern and dependable power system, large-scale oil and gas investments simply cannot succeed," he explained.

Another major priority will be the modernization of the country's ports, transportation systems, and logistics infrastructure. Smith Perera estimates that this sector alone will require approximately US$200 billion in private investment to enable the efficient movement of people, equipment, goods, crude oil, and refined products.

Beyond energy infrastructure, Smith Perera emphasizes that Venezuela's long-term prosperity will depend on developing the country's non-oil economy, including housing, industrial parks, warehouses, healthcare facilities, schools, shopping centers, and entirely new urban developments.

"The real winners will be those who understand that oil is only the beginning. Sustainable prosperity comes from building the industries, services, and communities that grow alongside the energy sector," he said.

He estimates that these non-oil sectors will require an additional US$1 trillion in investment, creating the economic multiplier that transforms energy revenues into lasting national prosperity.

At the Venezuela Reawakening Summit, Smith Perera will present a comprehensive roadmap detailing where investment gaps exist, how capital can bridge them, and which sectors are expected to generate the greatest long-term opportunities for engineering firms, contractors, infrastructure developers, logistics companies, technology providers, financial institutions, and international investors.

"CEOs, contractors, and investors who want to participate in Venezuela's economic transformation need a clear understanding of where the opportunities will emerge and how private capital can unlock them. In Houston, I will present a practical blueprint supported by concrete financial analysis and a long-term strategic vision," Smith Perera concluded.

The Venezuela Reawakening Summit 2026 will bring together business leaders, institutional investors, energy executives, engineering firms, technology providers, financial institutions, and policymakers to examine the conditions necessary for Venezuela's economic recovery and to foster strategic partnerships between companies from the United States, Venezuela, and the broader international business community.
